Here are possible warning signs that you shouldn’t ignore…
According to the American Cancer Society, one in two men and one in three women will get cancer in their lifetimes. A scary thought, to say the least, but don’t throw in the towel just. Researchers have found that there is a strong connection between cancer and the foods that we eat, which makes many types avoidable. Want to lower your risk?
Remove these seven deadly foods from your diet today…
Sugary sodas make you fat and put you at risk for diabetes and heart disease. But the risks don’t end there. Sugar-sweetened sodas beverages like Coke and Pepsi contain a chemical called 4-methylimidazole in the caramel coloring (to make these drinks brown), which has the unfortunate side effect of causing lung, liver, and thyroid cancers in high amounts, as well as leukemia. Ditch the sodas.
It’s quick, it’s easy to prepare, and it’s delicious, but that doesn’t make it healthy. There are safety issues involving the chemicals in most brands of microwave popcorn. Diacetyl, which is found in the artificial butter flavoring, has been linked to bronchiolitis obliterans (a kind of lung disease), and the PFOA in the lining of microwave popcorn bags is thought to be a cancer-causing carcinogen.
French fries are potatoes fried in hydrogenated vegetable oil. Hydrogenated oils contain trans-unsaturated fatty acids (trans fat), a type of fat known to cause all kinds of problems in the body, including cancer. On top of that, foods fried at a high heat contain high levels of acrylamide, which further increases your risk of cancer. If you must have fries, frying in palm, coconut, or olive oil is healthier.
Keep your red meat consumption to a minimum. Red meat has been associated with cancer for years, and research indicates that regularly eating large amounts beef, pork, and lamb increases your risk of developing tumors. According to scientists, this is because red meat contains a sugar (Neu5Gc) that the human body registers as foreign, triggering an immune response that ultimately results in cancer.
Avoid eating sausages, bacon, lunch meats, and hotdogs, even if it is tempting. In a study conducted by the University of Hawaii, researchers concluded that these meats increased the risk of pancreatic cancer by almost 70%. Hotdogs are particularly bad, as they usually contain sodium nitrite, a food preservative that has been linked to leukemia, gastrointestinal cancer, and brain cancer.
Though salmon may provide many health benefits, it may be best to stay away from the farmed variety. Farmed salmon is often loaded with antibiotics, pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls, and flame retardants, studies have found – cancer-causing contaminants that are especially harmful to children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. To get your omega-3 fatty acids, go for wild salmon.
Maintaining a healthy weight is important, no doubt, but foods that say “fat-free,” “sugar-free”, and “low-fat” are usually bad news. They are often packed with artificial sweeteners and coloring’s that aren’t safe. Saccharin, for example, has been found to cause cancer in laboratory test subjects, and commonly used dyes like yellow 5, yellow 6, red 3, and red 40 contain well-known carcinogens.
